Actress Helen Slayton-Hughes dies aged 92

Parks and Recreation actress Helen Slayton-Hughes has died at the age of 92, her family confirms in a statement.

In a tribute posted to Facebook, the post reads: “To the friends and fans of our beloved Helen, Helen passed away last night. Her pain has ended but her fierce spirit lives on. Thank you for the love and support of her and her work. Rest sweet one.…”

Her agents later confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly.

Slayton-Hughes was best known for her recurring role as Ethel Beavers in the sitcom Parks and Recreation.

The actress played the fierce and spiteful courthouse stenographer, who always stopped main lead Leslie Knope’s intense plans in her tracks.

Her first major appearance in the show was when she was the court stenographer for Ben and Leslie’s ethics trial determining their romantic relationship, and they later became friends, with Ethel even invited to Leslie’s Galentine’s Day event.

She was also known for her roles in Brooklyn Nine-NineMalcolm in the Middle, Arrested Development, My Name Is Earland New Girl, as well as hundreds of theatre shows.

Slayton-Hughes is quoted by her family in a tribute video saying, “I love doing drama but I’m always hired to do comedy.”

She also appeared in some drama series during her long career, including The West Wing, NYPD Blue, Pretty Little Liars, True Bloodand Parenthood, as well as the films Good Night and Good Luck and the Veronica Mars movie.

Her last film credit was the Netflix horror-comedy The Curse of Bridge Hollow.
