Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus has confirmed his speculated engagement to Australian singer Firerose.
The couple had posted photos together on social media, showing off a diamond sparkler on the 34-year-old’s left hand ring finger four weeks ago but coyly captioned it “Happy autumn”, without any further details.
Now, on the day of their new single release, the couple have appeared in People magazine to officially announce the news, revealing the 61-year-old singer popped the question on bended knee back in August.

The 34-year-old, whose birth name is believed to be Johanna Rosie Hodges, has legally changed her name to Firerose – a moniker given by her grandmother, she tells the publication.
Firerose first met Cyrus on the set of Disney series Hannah Montana, which he starred in alongside daughter Miley Cyrus, 12 years ago as his German shepherd Tex played matchmaker.

They got talking after Firerose came over to pat Tex and the Australian singer revealed she’d been there to audition for another show. Moments later, with a gut feeling he was in the presence of “a star”, Cyrus took her to meet the Hannah Montana production team.
“I just thought, well, the casting agents, the producers, the writers, they’re all on the floor of where we do Hannah Montana,” he told the publication.
“And I actually said to her, ‘Don’t ever take a strange man up on this offer, but, in this case, Tex will testify that you will be totally safe. I’m going to introduce you to a producer and you can kind of make yourself at home and watch us rehearse and you know, maybe it might lead to a role or just another contact at Disney.’
“And so, off me and her and Tex went back to the studio and I think she met a lot of the cast and met the producers, writers. And, in some ways, well, in a lot of ways, we became friends.”
The pair stayed in touch over the years then, during the pandemic, they became songwriting partners, which then led to more.
“When we began sharing the music, it just evolved more into, as musical soulmates, to soulmates, happy, pure love that to me, I didn’t know could exist,” Cyrus told the magazine.
Firerose said the singer opened up to her about what was going on in his personal life and she tried to support him as a friend before things later moved to the next level.
At the time the father-of-six was divorcing his second wife, Tish Cyrus – they’d previously file for divorce twice before but this third time, in April, the couple finalised their divorce.
The Achy Breaky Heart singer was also previously married to songwriter Cindy Smith from 1986 to 1991, before marrying Tish in 1993.
Cyrus is dad to three daughters and two sons with ex-wife Tish: Brandi, 35; Trace, 33; Miley, 29; Braison, 28; and Noah, 22. He also shares son Christopher Cody, 30, with ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey.
While there have been reports his children – especially Miley – aren’t happy about the relationship and quick engagement, Cyrus tried to quash the rumours by saying there are no hard feelings and “everybody’s turning the page”.
The couple have not announced a wedding date.
