Brendan Fraser has revealed he won’t be attending the 2023 Golden Globes despite being predicted to receive a nomination for his work in The Whale.

Speaking to GQ Fraser said he “will not participate” in the awards show after he alleged former Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) President Philip Berk sexually assaulted him.

The association runs the Golden Globes award ceremony.

“It’s because of the history that I have with them [the HFPA]. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that,” the actor said, reiterating bluntly: “No, I will not participate.”

Fraser first accused ex-HFPA President Philip Berk of the 2003 incident of sexual assault in an interview with GQ2018.

“His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around,” he recounted.

Berk denied the claim in an email to GQsaying “Mr Fraser’s version is a total fabrication.”

Fraser said he rushed home to tell his wife of the alleged incident, which he says eventually got him blacklisted in Hollywood.

“I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry,” the actor added.

Despite making an official complaint to HFPA about the incident, it was ruled as a ‘joke’ and not a ‘sexual advance’.

Philip Berk was removed as president of the HFPA in 2021 after emailing an article to other members that described Black Lives Matter as a “racist hate movement.”

While Fraser won’t appear at the 2023 Golden Globes, he did confirm he will be advocating for The Whale to be nominated for an Oscar, saying he owes it to himself, his kids and the production team.
