Brentford star Ivan Toney has been charged over more than 200 breaches of betting rules, the Football Association has announced.
The 26-year-old striker admitted he was assisting the FA with its investigation last week into historic breaking of gambling rules.
The FA said on Wednesday: “Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules.
“It is alleged that the Brentford FC forward breached FA rule E8 232 times between February 25, 2017 and January 23, 2021.
“Ivan Toney has until Thursday, November 24 to provide a response.”
Under FA rules, players operating at Premier League, English Football League, National League and The FA Women’s Super League and The FA Women’s Championship levels are banned from betting on football.
It was reported Toney was under investigation shortly before Gareth Southgate was due to announce his England squad for the World Cup.
However, the 26-year-old missed out with Southgate opting to pick Callum Wilson’s as Harry Kane’s understudy up front.
