Carrie Bickmore’s ex Chris Walker thanks people for their support amid shock split

Carrie Bickmore‘s ex-partner, Chris Walker, has thanked friends and family for their support after announcing their breakup yesterday on social media after more than a decade together.

Hours after the pair released similar statements on Instagram, the TV producer also took to the platform to express his gratitude for the outpouring of love.

“Thanks to friends, family and colleagues on an otherwise rubbish day,” Walker wrote while sharing a happy snap of their children, Evie, born in 2015, and Adelaide, born in 2018.

The photo also featured family friend, Jem, and 15-year-old stepson Ollie, Bickmore’s child with her late husband, Greg Lange.

“Glad I get to be with the three best people (+ Jem) on earth to finish it. Your words and kindness (and food) have been cherished. I haven’t got back to you all but I will and I love you heaps.”

Bickmore, 42, and Walker shared news of their separation in a brief statement shared to their Instagram Stories yesterday morning.

“Hi there. It’s with immense sadness that [we] have decided to separate,” they said.

“While this is a tough time, our focus is to concentrate on parenting, loving and supporting our three amazing children, Ollie, Evie and Addie with everything we’ve got. They are doing great. We won’t be making any further comment at this stage.”

The pair met on the set of The Project in 2012, two years after Bickmore lost her husband to brain cancer, aged just 35.

The breakup also comes two months after Bickmore announced she was leaving The Project after 13 years, saying she was stepping back to spend more time with her family.

“I have made the tough decision to finish up hosting the show at the end of the year,” she said. “It’s been the hardest decision of my professional life to make this call, but it’s time for a new challenge and my next chapter.”
