The star player was depicted in a tweet wearing his favourite number seven on a blue and yellow shirt. Without providing financial details, Al Nassr announced in a statement that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will join the club on a term until 2025. Many outlets have reported that Ronaldo’s contract is worth more than €200 million ($214.04 million).

The Portuguese superstar is eligible to play starting January 1 as the transfer window opens and he can be registered with the club and the match on January 5 against Al Ta’ee is expected to be Ronaldo’s debut, but the forward could also wait to take the field against league leaders Al Shabab on January 14.

Ronaldo will not be playing in the AFC Champions League as the club hasn’t qualified for it.

Ronaldo issued a statement following the contract signing, saying: “I am excited to experience a new football league in a different country. The vision of what Al Nassr are doing and developing in Saudi Arabia both in terms of men’s and women’s football is very inspiring. ”

Al-Nassr has included a unique condition in his new contract, which is very similar to the one previously signed by Lionel Messi. In accordance with the terms of the deal, Ronaldo has been requested to serve as an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the World Cup in 2030. It is expected that the Middle Eastern nation will submit a combined proposal with Egypt and Greece for the 2022 event.

It has been reported that Ronaldo’s visit to Saudi Arabia is being treated as a “matter of state” because of the positive publicity he will generate for the country abroad. Even Messi represented Saudi Arabia as an ambassador.

In an explosive television appearance in November, the star forward announced his departure from Manchester United, citing feelings of betrayal and a lack of respect for the club’s Dutch manager Erik ten Hag.
