Moore, who was born in Hamilton on June 5, 1946, graduated from Garfield High School in 1964. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam as an infantryman with the 1st Battalion/9th Marine Division. He honorably departed the Marine Corps in 1967 and enlisted in the Hamilton Fire Department, where he served until his retirement as fire chief in 2001. While Moore was the fire chief, Hal Shepherd, the city manager, described him as “a lovely person.”

He was devoted to both the city of Hamilton and the Hamilton Fire Department, the man claimed. He handled his responsibilities with real professionalism and was a leader. Under his direction, the city and the department both improved. According to Mercer, Moore had attained the position of fire chief and had based his success throughout his term “on the strong traditions of the Hamilton Fire Department, as well as his camaraderie among the officers and members.”

He added that the department made “many reforms to modernize our methods and facilities” while his leadership of the department. According to Mercer, Moore was “a wonderful storyteller” and had “a sharp sense of humor” when she recounted his adventures as a child growing up in Hamilton and as a Marine. They were married for 55 years when Moore wed Joann (née McKibben) in 1967. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joann Moore; his two children, David (Nicole) Moore and Wendi (Mike) Roush; his four grandchildren, Alec (with fiancée Hannah Neal) Roush, Dalton Roush, Anna Moore, and Sophia Moore; his one sister, Pamela Moore; his one brother, Kenny (Peggy) Moore; his brother-in-law Roger McKibben; his sister-in-law Alta Chasteen.
