The Spanish boss who is regarded as one of the best managers failed to win the Champions League with Bayern. And he continues to struggle that problem with Manchester City too, despite winning four Premier League titles.

As the two teams step in to clash, all eyes are on Guardiola who goes up against Bayern’s Julian Nagelsmann.

Man City vs Bayern Munich head-to-head history

Manchester City have gone up against Bayern Munich six times in the Champions League so far. In those six games, the 52-year-old was always involved having being first in charge of Bayern in four of those.

The two teams have a close head-to-head record, with each side having won three games each. When Guardiola first arrived in Germany, he was expected to win a Champions League title defence. However, Bayern and City found themselves paired in the same group during the 2013/14 campaign.

Each team won at their respective home ties and both moved on to the knockouts. Bayern were the table toppers ahead of City. However, that season, City lost out to Barcelona in the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Bayern fell to against the Los Blancos side.

Bayern and City were again paired in the same group in the following season. Former Bayern defender Jerome Boateng scored a late winner in Munich to help his side win. Following the result, Manuel Pellegrini’s desperately needed a home win to avoid a shock early exit.

It was club legend Sergio Aguero who stepped up to deliver some last minute goals helping City win 3-2 against 10-man Bayern. However, that season again, both teams eventually lost out to Barcelona in the knockout phase.
