Australian jazz and soul singer Renée Geyer has died aged 69 following complications from a hip surgery.
Geyer’s label Mushroom Records confirmed her death in a statement, saying they were devastated by the loss.
“Renée is one of the most highly regarded singers in contemporary music – her unique vocal sound influences countless singers to this day,” the statement said.

Geyer’s family also took to Facebook to confirm the passing of the Heading in the Right Direction singer.
“It is with immense sadness that we announce that Renée Geyer has passed away from complications following hip surgery,” they said. “While in hospital, it was discovered that Renée also had inoperable lung cancer. She was in no pain and died peacefully amongst family and friends.
“Beloved and respected by so many, Renée Geyer was a force of nature and a national treasure. The world is a duller place for her passing.”
Geyer was born in 1953 to a Hungarian-Jewish father and Slovak-Jewish mother. She began singing as a teenager and joined a number of groups before eventually being signed to RCA records. Under RCA, Geyer released her classic hits such as It’s a Man’s Man’s World and Ready to Deal.
