Rod Stewart has revealed why he was forced to cancel his performance at A Day on the Green, which left fans heartbroken at the last minute.
Stewart, alongside fellow music legends Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens, had been set to perform on Saturday evening during the festival at Mt Duneed Estate in Geelong, Victoria, before it was cancelled at the eleventh hour.
The promoter shared a statement explaining the show would not go ahead “due to illness”, with Stewart now revealing he has a viral infection in a post on Twitter.

“I’m absolutely downhearted that I’m disappointing my fans who bought tickets to A Day On The Green,” Stewart said, adding a broken-heart emoj.
“Late this morning I was advised that I have a viral infection and my throat is too irritated to sing.
“I’m only human and sometimes get sick like you do. My greatest joy is performing for you, so I’m doing everything I can to get on the mend and back on stage.”
The star received plenty of support from fans on his post, with one person commenting: “I hope you’re alright Rod! Rest well!”
“Take care of yourself, don’t worry, your fans understand and will be waiting for you. Much love, many blessings,” another wrote.

An earlier announcement to disappointed fans read: “Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment regret to announce that tonight’s performance by Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens at Mt. Duneed Estate, Geelong will not go ahead due to illness.
“We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience for ticket holders.
“A further announcement regarding the concert arrangements will be made early next week.”
Upset ticket holders took to social media to call out the fact the performance was cancelled only a few hours before they were due to take the stage at 4pm.
“[A] text this morning would have been nice before we travelled down from Melbourne,” one person shared on Twitter.
“Hope their insurance covers our accommodation and day off work. No email notification to ticket holders. Ended up receiving an email at 1.52pm, 63 minutes before the bus was due to collect us from [the] hotel,” another wrote.
The singer of famous songs including Handbags and Gladrags and Have I Told You Lately is currently on an intensive world tour and has been taking his ‘The Hits’ tour all over Australia this month.
He is then set to move over to New Zealand before a date in Mexico and seven nights at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas in May.
