Australian actor Samuel Johnson has spilled more details on the infamous moment Molly Meldrum interrupted his 2017 Gold Logie acceptance speech.
The Molly star, 44, recently put Meldrum on blast for storming the stage at an Elton John concert in Melbourne and dropping his pants in front of the crowd.
In an interview with 2Day FM’s Hughsy, Ed & Erin, Johnson became engaged in a heated argument with comedian Dave Hughes – who hosted the 2017 Logies – over the fact he didn’t intervene.
“I wasn’t speaking to Molly [at the time] because he’d called me lots of names and stuff,” Johnson explained on-air.

“Five minutes before the Gold Logie was announced, [Michael] Gudinski asked me if Molly could come up with you when you win. I told him not to come up, because I wanted to pay tribute to my sick sister.
“I was gonna make that moment about much more than me. That was my million-dollar opportunity.”
Johnson also criticised Hughes for not pulling Molly off stage in his capacity as Logies host, however the comedian admitted he wanted to usher him away.
“I was waiting for you to do something because you’re the funny guy,” Johnson said. “I kept waiting for Hughesy to actually interrupt him with something funny.”

“I was super stressed, thinking ‘how the hell do I deal with this situation?’,” Hughes replied, adding Eddie Maguire signalled for him to leave Meldrum on stage.
“That’s why I didn’t deal with it.”
Hughes then tried to encourage Johnson to reconnect with Meldrum, after the Secret Life of Us star admitted they “don’t talk”.
“The other day you said you would never speak to Molly again. I hate grudge holding,” Hughes said. “I think that’s bad for you.”
“I don’t wanna call him. I think that’s valid,” Johnson responded, revealing they haven’t spoken for three years.

Johnson said he had “bitten his tongue” about the Logies incident until now, admitting it was an issue he was still angry over.
“You’ve made me feel really petty,” he told the hosts. “Now I feel really, really pathetic.”

Johnson was not impressed with Meldrum after he joined Elton John on stage for a duet of the song The Bitch Is Back last Friday.
The icon shocked the crowd by dropping his pants and appearing to bare his backside.
“He needs to hang up his hat. Now,” Johnson said during an interview on Brisbane 4BC radio program Afternoons with Sofie Formica.
“I’m sick of him doing this, I’m sick of it, hang up your hat, mate.”
This week, Meldrum also issued an apology for what transpired at Elton’s concert.
Speaking to the Herald SunMeldrum explained the British singer had no idea he would join him onstage but insisted it was not a stunt, rather a wardrobe malfunction caused by a faulty belt.
“I shouldn’t have crashed Elton’s show,” Meldrum said. “As for my performance being more revealing than it should have been … well, at the start of the night, my belt buckle broke and my pants were already falling down. And on stage, one thing led to another.”
