Selena Gomez responds to body-shamers who criticised her appearance at Golden Globes

Selena Gomez has laughed off criticism surrounding her weight following her 2023 Golden Globes appearance last week.

The singer and actress, 30, looked stunning as she wore a strapless Valentino gown with puff sleeves to the star-studded ceremony in LA on January 11, but was unfortunately met with criticism.

However, she was not letting the body-shamers get to her.

In an Instagram Live clip posted last week after the ceremony, which has since gone viral, Gomez and her little sister Gracie, nine, could be seen laughing at her haters.

“I’m a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays, right?” Gomez told Gracie in the video before laughing. “But we don’t care.”

Gomez was 20 years old when Gracie was born to her mother Mandy Teefey and stepfather Brian Teefey, who were married in 2006. Despite the age gap, the girls share a tight bond, with Gomez saying her little sister helps keep her grounded.

“She puts things in perspective. I have to basically watch this little person grow into a human being. There’s no better feeling in the world. I kind of feel like a parent in a way,” the Wizards of Waverly Place said in a previous podcast interview.

Gomez is no stranger to criticism on social media. From her love life to her career, the star has been the target of many negative comments. But the trolls have come for the wrong girl as she often hits back.

Last year, she didn’t hesitate to slam body-shamers on TikTok, saying staying skinny wasn’t worth missing out on her favourite food.

“So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to [US fast-food chain] Jack in the Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich,” she said in a clip shared at the time.

“But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people b—h about it anyway,” she added before mimicking her trolls: “‘You’re too small. You’re too big. That doesn’t fit. Meh, meh, meh, meh.’ B—h, I am perfect the way I am.”
