A tentpole event movie, Pathaan is expertly packaged with just the right amount of drama, action, and thrills. Together with screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan, director Siddharth Anand makes sure the story moves quickly and includes high points frequently. Easily among the best in his career is Shah Rukh Khan’s opening scene.

He is portrayed as a genuine superstar of Indian cinema, and he is deserving of every bit of the way that he is portrayed on screen. It is an occasion to honor Shah Rukh Khan. One might not have anticipated John’s character’s interesting arc from the pre-release materials. Likewise for the persona played by Deepika Padukone.

Another twist occurs in the intermission, giving the audience a chance to put their thinking caps on during the bathroom break. In order to add drama and emotion, the plot changes in the second half and gives Pathaan’s character a personal arc that enables him to triumph against all odds.

In terms of both size and execution, the action scenes in the movie are the biggest we’ve seen in a Hindi movie to date. Everything about the movie is enjoyable to watch on a big screen, from the Shah Rukh Khan introduction to the fight scene in Spain, the pre-intermission block in Russia, the case sequence on the ice, and the climax. In order to mount the film at a certain level, YRF ensures that the production values are of the highest caliber with no compromises made in any area.

What is flawed?

Pathaan fits the mold of a typical spy movie because it is a Siddharth Anand production. A minor flaw is that, in some cases, the conflict keeps shifting without a proper resolution instead of concentrating on a single goal. The scenes that hint at SRK and Deepika’s potential romance slow down the action and deviate from the main storyline. The dialogue by Abbas Tyrewala could have been a little bit better, and the VFX could also use some improvement, especially during the aerial sequences. However, the direction team deserves praise for their ambition and big dreams in producing an action movie that can actually compete with those produced in the West.
