Vampire Academy fans, we have rather disappointing news for you. The hit fantasy horror series has been canceled by Peacock and will not be returning for another season. On Friday, it was announced that the streaming platform would be pulling the plug on the series after just one season.

Vampire Academy was based on the novel series of the same name by Richelle Mead. The news comes almost three months after the first season finished its 10-episode run on Peacock in October 2022. Read on to know more about the development.

Peacock Cancels Vampire Academy After One Season

As per sources, Peacock decided to cancel the series because the executives felt that it ‘did not fulfill the requisite audience requirements to warrant further seasons.’ The executives were still happy with the concept and creativity of the series.

The producer of the series, Universal Television, is now said to be looking for a new platform to continue the show with further seasons. Vampire Academy has been created by Julie Plec, who will continue to work with Peacock as she is already developing her next project for the platform, a mystery drama titled Freeman.

The Show was Based on Richelle Mead’s Novel Series

Vampire Academy premiered in September 2022 and followed the lives of two young women who prepare to enter the royal vampire society after completing their education. The show starred Sisi Stringer as Rose Hathaway, Daniela Nieves as Lissa Dragomir, Kieron Moore as Dimitri Belikov, André Dae Kim as Christian Ozera, and Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Tatiana Vogel.

The cast also included Mia McKenna-Bruce as Mia Karp, Jonetta Kaiser as Sonya Karp, Andrew Liner as Mason Ashford, Rhian Blundell as Meredith Beckham, J. August Richards as Victor Dashkov, Pik-Sen Lim as Queen Marina, Jason Diaz as Andre Dragomir and Max Parker as Mikhail Tanner.

The official synopsis of the series read, “In a world of privilege and glamour, two young women’s friendship transcends their strikingly different classes as they prepare to complete their education and enter vampire society.”

“One as a powerful Royal, the other a half-vampire Guardian trained to protect against the savage Strigoi who threaten to tear their society apart. That is, if Royal infighting doesn’t do the job first,” it read further. The show was touted as a ‘story of friendship, romance, and danger.’

Peacock is now Investing in New Shows

The cancelation of Vampire Academy comes at a time when Peacock is said to be moving into a new phase of development and launching several new shows, including the comedy-drama Best Man: The Final Chaptersthe mystery series Poker Faceand the documentary-comedy Paul T. Goldman.

Peacock is also coming up with a show based on Robert McCammon’s 1988 novel Stingerwhich will be created by Yellowstone writer Ian McCulloch and The Conjuring creator James Wan. Two more shows, Based on a True Story and Mrs Davis have also been ordered by the streaming service.
