What did Stokes say about the incident?

In July, Stokes, a standout quarterback at Nease High School, committed to play NCAA football for the Gators. Shortly after the institution withdrew its scholarship offer, he issued a Twitter apology for the racial insult. In a statement published on Sunday, he stated that rap music was playing in his car as he rapped along to the lyrics and uploaded a video of it to social media. He sincerely regrets the lyrics he chose to use in the song. Stokes went to the same high school as Tim Tebow, a legend at the University of Florida, who later admitted that his offer had been revoked.

His purpose was never to hurt anybody, Stokes wrote. He knows that even though his words are part of a song, they nevertheless carry a lot of weight. After receiving more than a dozen offers from Division 1 institutions, he changed his pledge from Penn State to Florida in July.

Stokes penned that he completely acknowledges that his actions have consequences. He also appreciates the University of Florida’s choice to revoke its football scholarship offer. Prior to Florida pursuing Jaden Rashada of California, another highly regarded prep quarterback prospect, the decision to rescind Stokes’ scholarship was made.

Marcus Stokes has a brother named Lucas and is the son of Kevin and Wendy Stokes. He contributed to one of the most amazing comebacks in Florida high school football in 2021 for Nease High School in Ponde Vedra Beach. Stokes asserted that he enjoys writing music in his spare time.

Stokes, a four-star 2023 quarterback recruit, turned down offers from Penn State and other top schools before deciding on Florida. Other mid-level FBS institutions that extended offers to him included Pitt, Utah, Virginia Tech, and others.
