2023 has gone off with a bang – at least between Hugh Jackman and his best mate Ryan Reynoldsafter the Aussie star virtually begged the Academy not to nominate Reynolds for an Oscar.
In a hilarious video shared to his Instagram account, the 45-year-old reignited the pair’s long-running ‘feud’ when he pleaded against a potential nomination for the song ‘Good Afternoon’ from Reynolds’ Christmas movie Spirited.
“Hey everybody, it’s 2023 and I really really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible,” he said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I loved Spirited. It’s a great movie … I love Will, I love Octavia [Spencer] … the song ‘Good Afternoon’I laughed the entire way through, it is absolutely brilliant,” he continued.
However, he then says that if the song received the nomination it “would make the next year of my life insufferable.”
“It would – I mean, I have to spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool,” Jackman adds, in reference to their upcoming film Deadpool 3. “Trust me, it would be impossible. It would be a problem.”
He concludes: “But please, please from the bottom of my heart – do not validate Ryan Reynolds in this way. Please.”

Just before Christmas, The Greatest Showman actor also took a stab at his frenemy in another clip on Instagram accusing Reynolds of a ‘home invasion’.
As he stood in front of his Christmas tree, Jackman gestured to a large cardboard cutout of Reynolds from his recently released Christmas film, Spirited.
“How did he get in here? What the hell?! This is my home,” Jackman said.
The pair became known for their Christmas bickering in 2018, when Jackman and fellow actor Jake Gyllenhaal told Reynolds their Christmas shindig was an ugly sweater party.
To the Deadpool actor’s surprise, he was the only one to show up in dress code, telling fans, “These a–holes told me it was a sweater party.”
